Milwaukee: A Day Without Immigrants and Workers

https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/may-day-strong

Thursday, May 1: Day Without Immigrants and Workers
Visit vdlf.org for more information and resources

Agenda:
*9:30 am: Start at Voces Milwaukee
*10 am: Mass march to the Federal Courthouse

Voces Milwaukee: 733 W. Mitchell St
Federal Courthouse: 517 E. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee

Demands:
*Stop the criminalization of immigrants and the separation of families!
*We defend Medicaid, food stamps, and public education! No more tax cuts for billionaires.
*Defend sanctuary cities!
*Immigration reform with a path to citizenship now!

Across the country—from fruit fields in California to classrooms in Chicago, from kitchens in Queens to loading docks in Atlanta—working people are rising up. We are demanding a country that puts our families over their fortunes—public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, housing over homelessness.

Musk, Trump and their fellow profiteers are trying to create a race to the bottom—on wages, on benefits, on dignity itself. They want to erase labor rights, break our unions, and silence immigrant voices.

May Day 2025 we are fighting back. Organizing for a world where every family has housing, healthcare, fair wages, union protection, and safety—regardless of race, zip code, or immigration status.

They’re defunding our schools, privatizing public services, attacking unions, and targeting immigrant families with fear and violence. This is a war on working people—and we will not stand down. This day of action is just the beginning. We're organizing not just for one day, but to build power in every neighborhood, on every shop floor, and in every school.

This May Day, we will turn the page. This is the beginning of a new era—one where working families lead, immigrants are protected, and no one is left behind. This is not charity. This is not a request. We are reclaiming our power from corporate elites, and we will not be intimidated by Trump, Musk, or their billionaire backers. They’ve ruled for too long. Their time is up.

STOP THE BILLIONAIRE TAKEOVER.

WE ARE THE MANY. THEY ARE THE FEW.

THIS IS MAY DAY. JOIN US.

Washburn: May Day Rally

5.1.25: Washburn - May Day Rally · Washburn City Hall Plaza @ Noon

The Neighbors Union invites you to join us for a noon-hour rally this May Day!

Come be a visible force in public, meet one another, and learn about the history of working peoples' struggle against the ruling class!

On May Day (International Workers' Day) we commemorate those who fought and died for the 8-hour workday in 1886, and all those who before and since have worked to make a better world for all.

In our era of rising authoritarianism and billionaire-rule, we the people must organize ourselves to demonstrate that the power of organized people is stronger than the power of organized money.

Reach out with any questions--we're looking forward to connecting with you and together building the people-power movement for the long-haul!

You can stay in-the-loop with other community organizing efforts in our area by signing up for the weekly Neighbors Union email here

The following is language from 'May Day Strong':

Join us on Library Mall at the UW-Madison campus Friday May 2nd at 3:15 pm for a teach-in and demonstration to ask UW-Madison and UW System leadership and the citizens of the great state of Wisconsin to stand up with us--their faculty, staff, and students--in defense of academic freedom, immigrant and international students, open inquiry, and free expression.

The current actions of the U.S. government against colleges and universities are doing great harm to scientific innovation, community and economic growth, and the education/training of the next generation of workers, artists, scientists, medical professionals, and business leaders of Wisconsin and the Midwest. Stand up with us now to ask campus leadership and our congressional delegation to do more to fight back against these illegal and counter-productive actions.

This event will start at 3:15pm with a teach-in about key demands we're asking UW leadership to pursue and action plans for the summer break. At 4:00pm we'll march down State St to join the Voces de la Frontera rally at the WI State Capitol for a 4:30pm rally where we'll join our colleagues in solidarity and community!

Burlington: May Day Strong

https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/782128/

Across the country—from fruit fields in California to classrooms in Chicago, from kitchens in Queens to loading docks in Atlanta—working people are rising up. We are demanding a country that puts our families over their fortunes—public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, housing over homelessness.

Musk, Trump and their fellow profiteers are trying to create a race to the bottom—on wages, on benefits, on dignity itself. They want to erase labor rights, break our unions, and silence immigrant voices.

May Day 2025 we are standing united. We're organizing for a world where every family has housing, healthcare, fair wages, union protection, and safety—regardless of race, zip code, or immigration status.

They’re defunding our schools, privatizing public services, attacking unions, and targeting immigrant families with fear and violence. This is a war on working people—and we will not stand down. Using the principles of nonviolence and peaceful protest, we will stand together and stand strong.

JOIN US.

Noon- 2

Marathon Park on Stewart Avenue (across from John Muir)

Join us for a day of action. We are PROTECTORS of all things good. Bring your signs honoring what you are most passionate about. Make your voice heard. These are opportunities for us to lock arms in solidarity. You are not alone. The current administration needs to know that we will not back down as they try to make cuts that hurt all of us.

We all know that people like Tom Tiffany are full of you-know-what and frequently aid in cutting vital services that hurt us all and make us cry....For this May Day action we ask you, as you are able, to bring paper products that will benefit the Women’s Community. The severe cuts have hurt them deeply. One in four women are hurt or killed each day in our state.

There is plenty of parking in and around Marathon Park. Please obey all laws.

Make your plan to join us and fight back. Before it’s too late.

Madison: Democracy Rush Hour

Every Tuesday, citizens have been reaching commuters on University Ave in Madison, WI with pro-democracy messages and a targeted theme each week. During morning rush hour hundreds of commuters have to sit at this red light and look at our signs! This is an opportunity to pierce through our current news (and disinformation) ecosystems with concise pro-democracy ideas, messages, and calls to action.

In your confirmation email, you will receive a link to a google doc and my email so you can get the weekly topic. If you don't know the topic of the week or don't want to make new signs, you can always just make one telling drivers to call their senators and rep! Adams County: Hands Off Medicaid Town Hall

Attend an upcoming "Hands Off Medicaid" Town Hall.

May 9th, 4pm in Adams, WI
May 10th, 10am in Green Lake, WI
May 10th, 2pm in Wautoma, WI

Each will include a brief presentation from Citizen Action of Wisconsin's health policy expert, comments from local leaders, testimony from directly-affected community members, and an open forum for questions and further testimony

If you live in Wisconsin and are interested in helping organize a Medicaid town hall in your community, contact: Timothy.Faust@citizenactionwi.org

Wisconsin’s Medicaid program covers 1.2 million people. It contains BadgerCare, a health insurance program for low-income residents; FamilyCare and IRIS, which fund nursing home care and home healthcare services for seniors and people with disabilities; Birth to 3, which provides comprehensive services for infants with developmental disabilities, and several other programs serving vulnerable populations who would otherwise be excluded from healthcare infrastructure. It is also the largest payer of mental health services, one of the primary funders for substance use disorder rehabilitation, and a budgetary lifeline for hospitals and physicians serving rural and low-income patients.

In February, both chambers of Congress passed a budget resolution calling $4.5 trillion in tax breaks over the next decade, including a $2 trillion reduction in government spending. The Energy & Commerce Committee, which oversees Medicaid, was apportioned $880 billion of these cuts. Though Medicaid was not explicitly named in the resolution, the Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan government agency, concludes that this goal is unattainable without severe cuts to Medicaid.
