Start the 4th off by remembering why we celebrate.
At 9a in the shelter at VFW Park, various community members will be publicly reciting the Declaration of Independence.
If all you remember of the Declaration is "When in the course of human events," you are in for a treat. This document, 249 years old, inspired not only our revolution, but subsequent revolutions for democracy in other countries. It is audacious, it unflinchingly sets out the case for independence, and was an extremely risky action by those who signed.
This is a document that deserves to be read aloud and heard - come to the VFW Park Shelter at 9a on July 4th and listen.
Indivisible Sauk Prairie, a progressive political group, and the local VFW are joining forces for a public recitation of the Declaration of Independence at 9a on July 4th at the VFW Park in Prairie du Sac. Besides the fact that the Declaration is a powerful document that SHOULD be read aloud on July 4th, both groups want to show that people with different political opinions can share common bedrock values and - yes - even be friends.
