Notes from the organizer: Overpass Protest: 18 miles of Ozaukee Outrage!
Thursday, 7/17 from 4-6pm Join us to fill our bridges over an 18 mile stretch of I-43 in Ozaukee County and show our community what we are willing to stand up for!
Trump’s administration is filled with relentless acts of cruelty and injustice. Whether your top issues are defending the constitution, restoring funding and other protections, fighting for the rights of people being targeted or any of the other issues on the seemingly endless list, it’s time to show up. The sweeping cuts to our state budget and the “Big Billionaires’ Bill” are designed to line the pockets of the wealthy and crush the weak. Rise up and take a stand with us on Thursday, 7/17 from 4-6pm.
We will be filling the following bridges and hope to add on more as we go! From South to North:
1. County Line Road
2. Donges Bay Road
3. Highland Road
4. Pioneer Road/Hwy C/Cedarburg
5. Falls Road
6. Grafton
7. Interurban Bike Path/foot bridge (parking and walking a longer distance will be required for this location - bicyclists are encouraged)
8. Exit 100 – Northernmost exit in Port Washington
Once you register, please email us with your preferred overpass from the list above (and if you would be willing to move to the next closest bridge, if we get a tremendous response and can fill more bridges!). We will have two captains at each bridge to ensure safety. Be on the lookout for sign making parties so we can rachet up our impact!
Bring flags, banners and signs, but make sure letters are at least 10” high to be visible at freeway speed and distance. That means short, concise messages. Come even if you don’t have a sign—we need a lot of people and we’ll have some signs for you. Thank you for your patriotism! Let’s Honor John Lewis and make real his dream: “It is my hope that people today will see that, in another time, in another period, when we saw the need for people to speak up, to organize, to mobilize, and to do something about injustice, we came together.”
