Watching what the Trump Regime is doing to democracy and the U.S. Constitution feels like watching a slow train wreck: you see it happening and you call out warnings, but your efforts seem to make little difference.
But we are not given any choice but to try to switch the train to another track. One where cruelty is not the governing philosophy. One where human rights, all human rights, are respected and honored. One where those less fortunate are treated with respect and dignity. One where everybody – young or old, poor or wealthy, immigrant or citizen, black or white, male or female, gay or straight – is given due process.
Throwing the switch to a new rail is hard work. It will take a long time. It can be lonely and feel pointless. But it has to be done, and if we don’t do it, who will?
Polls show the Big Ugly Bill is unpopular with voters. Protesting lets them know they are not alone, and inspires them to join and engage in their own actions to let elected officials know they are not happy.
We are again going to protest in Monona, building and strengthening our community. Joining others with whom you agree is energizing – you feel less alone.
